Initiators
The initiators behind the establishment of the Lundbeck Foundation Centre are Professor, dr. med. Henrik Kehlet, Rigshospitalet and Professor, dr. med. Kjeld Søballe, Aarhus University Hospital. The steering commitee has since been supplied with Professor dr. med. Torben Bæk-Hansen, Holstebro Hospital, dr.med Henrik Husted Hvidovre Hospital, and Professor dr.med Søren Overgaard, Odense University Hospital.

Henrik Kehlet is the former chief surgeon at Department of Surgery, Hvidovre University Hospital, professor of surgery at the University of Copenhagen, and is now professor of Perioperative Therapy at Rigshospitalet. Henrik Kehlet’s research has been focused on surgical pathophysiology, acute pain physiology and treatment, the transition from acute to chronic pain and organ dysfunction. Research areas have been condensed into the concept of "fast - track surgery" where the goal is the “pain and risk free” operation. Henrik Kehlet has published more than 900 scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals and has given more than 350 lectures at international scientific meetings.

Kjeld Søballe has since 2005 been a professor at the orthopaedic department, Aarhus University Hospital. Kjeld Søballe’s research is focused on hip surgery and on areas such as experimental basic research of implant fixations, coating of cement, genetic engineering, stem cell research and epidemiological and clinical studies. Kjeld Søballe has published more than 200 articles in scientific peer-reviewed journals and given more than 100 lectures at international scientific meetings.

Torben Bæk Hansen is clinical director and head of research at University Clinic for hand, hip and knee surgery, Regional Hospital Holstebro, and since 2013 also professor at Århus University. He has been working with fast-track hip and knee patient pathways since 2005, and has published 130 peer review scientific publications. Apart from publications in fast-track surgery his main research areas are outcomes of joint replacement surgery, implant design and epidemiology/register studies.

Henrik Husted is chief consultant, DMSc (PhD), assistant professor and heading the arthroplasty department at Copenhagen University Hospital, Hvidovre, Denmark. The department is a center of excellence and a reference center for fast-track attracting multidisciplinary visitors from all over the world. Henrik has published around 100 studies - many with Professor Kehlet - covering all aspects of fast-track and has given multiple presentations on fast-track in Europe, USA and the far East. In 2012 Henrik defended his thesis "Fast-track hip and knee arthroplasty: clinical and organizational aspects".

Søren Overgaard has since 2003 been a chief surgeon, professor and head of research at the department of orthopaedic surgery and traumatology, Odense University Hospital and Institutute of clinical research, University of Southern Denmark. His research is focused on clinical studies within hip and knee surgery on the treatment of patients with osteoarthrosis and dysplasia an on experimental basic research of implant fixations and bone substitutes, developement of osteoporosis in animals and stem cell research. In addition, he has as head of the Danish Hip Arthroplasty Register for more than 10 years a long publication list within epidemiological and register studies.
